Republic Services and Allied Waste complete merger
Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE:RSG)and Allied Waste Industries, Inc. (NYSE: AW) today announced that they have completed their merger to create one of the nation's leading waste and environmental services providers. The combined company, which will be based in Phoenix, is named Republic Services, Inc. and trades under the ticker symbol "RSG" on The New York Stock Exchange. As of the close of the market on December 5, Allied stock will be delisted and will no longer trade on the NYSE.

Allied Waste rewards customers for recycling
Allied Waste is pleased to announce an exciting new relationship with RecycleBank, the premier rewards and loyalty program that motivates people to recycle. The Allied Watse-RecycleBank program is expected to be implemented nationwide in 2009. This new partnership is just one more example of Allied Waste's progress in becoming a complete waste-stream manager that can provide innovative solutions to our customers. Allied Waste and RethinkWaste will be teaming up with member communities to give away compost this Fall.  The compost is made from local residential yard trimmings and composted at our Newby Island facility.  Residents will be able to take up to 1 cubic yard of compost (about six full garbage cans) at no charge from selected locations as long as supply lasts. Residents should bring shovels, gloves, containers, and proof of residency.
